BLACK GIRL MAGIC SERIES | EST. 2016, ONGOING

This growing series was created to inspire Black girls and women to embrace their natural hair. The original 5 half-portraits were conceived the same year the artist committed to her natural hair journey. The different hair styles are representative and inclusive of various dynamic types of Black girls, confronting societal norms and the false idea that Black girls are homogeneous. What Black girls do have in common is being magical. Now with 26 total portraits, and more than half based on the hair of real women, the goal is for every girl to see herself in at least one of the images.
